The best-known and most widely used panning tools today are balance and stereo pan. You do use them, don’t you?
Balance is the setting that controls the relative level of sound between the left and right channels of a stereo source. In other words, it’s the setting that determines whether the sound is louder in the left speaker, the right, or balanced between the two. A centered balance means that the sound is evenly distributed between the left and right channels. If the balance is moved to the left, the sound becomes louder in the left speaker, and if it is moved to the right, the sound becomes louder in the right speaker.
Stereo panning, on the other hand, refers to the spatial position of a sound source between the left and right channels. It’s the process of moving a sound source from one side to the other in the stereo field. When you pan a sound, you control its positioning within this stereophonic space. For example, if you take an instrument like a guitar and “pan” it to the left, the guitar sound will seem to come more from the left, and vice versa.
By using these methods, it is highly possible that the stereo image of the space in which your audio source was recorded will be deteriorated. By accumulating errors of this kind on multiple tracks, it can easily lead to an incoherent mix.
ProPan is an user-friendly audio plugin designed to add a new dimension to your mixes. It provides an algorithm for more natural control of stereo panning without degrading the audio source and source environment.
